CAPM Exam Structure

The exam is structured into four major sections, each section with its content percentage is given below:

Section 1: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts

Under this section, topics such as various project life cycles and processes, project management planning, project roles and responsibilities, following and executing planned strategies and frameworks, common problem-solving tools and techniques will be covered. Section 2: Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies

Section 3: Agile Frameworks/Methodologies

Under this section, topics such as using an adaptive approach, planning project iterations, documenting project controls for an adaptive project, the components of an adaptive plan, preparing and executing task management steps will be covered. You can expect approximately 30 questions from this domain. It covers almost 20% of the exam.

Section 4: Business Analysis Frameworks

Under this section, topics such as business analysis roles and responsibilities, conducting stakeholder communication, gathering requirements, product roadmaps, the influence of project methodologies on business analysis processes, validating requirements through product delivery will be covered. In the CAPM practice test, there are total 150 questions, 15 of which are unscored, and you will be given a 3-hour time limit, average 72 seconds per question. These unscored questions are randomly distributed and are used by the test administrators to evaluate potential questions for future exams.

CAPM Question Formats

In the CAPM exam, there are five different question formats which are given below: 

Multiple-Choice: You will be given a question and four possible answer choices. You have to choose the best option among them.

Point-and-Click: You will be given a scenario and a related image. You must answer each question by clicking the appropriate area within the image.

Drag-and-Drop: You will be provided with a scenario and two sets of boxes arranged in columns. Your task is to drag the boxes from the left column and place them in the correct order within the right column.

Scenario cartoon: You will have at least one question where you will read a scenario depicted by a cartoon and need to respond to a multiple-choice question based on it.

Comic Strip: You are shown a diagram with several points denoted and must choose the best one given the corresponding question.

How To Pass CAPM Exam

Does the credential need to be renewed regularly?

Yes, the credentials must be renewed after every three years. If you are a member of PMI then you have to pay $60 USD and if you are not a member then you have to pay $150 USD. To be eligible for renewal, you must earn 15 Professional Development Units (PDUs) within the three-year cycle. Each PDU represents one hour of qualifying activity and can be reported in 15-minute increments (0.25 PDU). At least nine of the 15 PDUs must come from formal education or training in related subjects.
